Holiday Assignment G5

Dear Parents of Grade 5,

Life needs to be balanced between fun and work. A short break gives a chance for children and parents to relax. During holidays, leisure replaces work as a priority. You are filled with the enthusiasm to explore, travel and learn. Besides relaxing, the children should keep in mind, the execution of the assigned work in a well-planned manner. Motivate them to interact with knowledgeable books that would in turn lead their minds to grow exclusively and in an effective manner.

The last working day for classes K-G5 will be 21.12.18 (Friday) and vacation holidays are from 22.12.2018 to 01.01.2019. The school will re-open on 02.01.2019 (Wednesday).

Please find the suggested activities in this circular which will also be available on the school ERP to engage our children during the vacation.

English:Parts of speech

Read the following and understand

• Noun: Often described as a person, place or thing. For example: dog, flower, girl, boy, mountain, rock.
• Verb: an action or a state of being. Examples: run, swim, jump, think, laugh, cry.
• Adjective: a word that modifies a noun. It will describe a person, place or thing. Examples: small, heavy, red, orange, smart, kind, loyal, angry.
• Adverb: modifies a verb. Sometimes they end in the letters “ly.” It can also refer to where or when something happened. Examples: quickly, forcefully, steadily, often, rarely.
• Pronoun: represents a noun. Examples: he, she, her, him, it, they, them.
• Preposition: describes information about phrases in a sentence, such as how words relate to each other. Examples: across, above, in, from, underneath, onto, on, behind.
• Conjunction: connects two phrases together. If the phrases are independent, they should be separated by a comma after the conjunction. Examples: and, but, yet, so, or.
• Interjection: used to express emotion or excitement and they are usually followed by exclamation marks. Examples: Oh, Dear me, Wow, Aha.
• Take 8 paper bags. Write the name of one of the 8 parts of speech on each paper bag.
• Write down 20 different words, one on each flashcard. Think of different variety of words.
• Identify the part of speech belonging to each word and place it in its corresponding paper bag.
• Choose one word from each paper bag, and try to use the words to form a sentence. Your friend or your parent will give you one point for each word.
• When you have used all the flashcards, place them back into the correct bag and then play again.

Tamil:Write an essay on ‘The history of Dravidian languages’

Hindi:Write a few lines about your grandparents. Prepare a few questions that you would want them to respond to.

Math: Mark the cities that we come across while travelling on road from Mumbai to Ladakh. Record the distance, cost, travel time in a tabular form. Compare the same with an alternate mode of transport (train or flight).

Science: Complete the activity given by the Science teacher.

Social:Write a report on Cyclone Gaja. Collect newspaper clippings too.
