Holiday Assignment G6-8

December 21st, 2018 /balsam user

Dear Parents of Grade 6 to 8,

Life needs to be balanced between fun and work. A short break gives a chance for children and parents to relax. During holidays, leisure replaces work as a priority. You are filled with the enthusiasm to explore, travel and learn. Besides relaxing, the children should keep in mind, the execution of the assigned work in a well-planned manner. Motivate them to interact with knowledgeable books that would in turn lead their minds to grow exclusively and in an effective manner.

The last working day for classes G6-10 will be 22.12.18 (Saturday) and vacation holidays are from 23.12.2018 to 01.01.2019. The school will re-open on 02.01.2019 (Wednesday).

Please find the suggested activities in this circular which will also be available on the school ERP to engage our children during the vacation.

Wishing to meet you in January after the short break with a broader outlook and positive attitude.

With good wishes,

Team Balsam

Holiday assignments will be evaluated and considered as internal assessment so, parents are requested to encourage children to complete it and submit on 02.01.2019.

English:Choose one activity and receive feedback from the family members or friends.

Activity 1: Organise the family into pairs and get them to play “Have you ever…? Get them to take it in turns to ask and answer questions. When answering, remind them to use the past tense if they give a specific time and the present perfect if they do not. You may let them prepare some questions in their notebook beforehand.

Example:
Member 1: Have you ever driven a car?
Member 2: No, I haven’t. Have you ever played chess?
Member 1: Yes, I played last year. Have you ever eaten spaghetti?

Member 2: Yes, I have. Have you ever lost your bag?

Activity 2: Get members to play who, where, which? Organise the group into pairs. The first member says who, which or where. Their partner must then give a sentence containing the relative clause. Members take turns and continue the activity.

Example :
Member 1: Which?
Member 2: The car, which my mum drives, is blue. Who?
Member 1: Juliet, who lives next door, has got a laptop. Where?
Member 2: The supermarket, where I go shopping, sells great snacks. Who?

Activity 3: Organise the members into groups and get them to play Bingo. Nominate a caller for each group. Each group then makes a list of 12 words ending with able. Each member draws a grid of six squares in their book or paper, chooses six of the able words and writes the words in their grid.

The caller takes the list of 12 able words. Without looking at the members’ grids, the caller says the words in random order, without repeating any. The members listen and cross out the words on their grid as the caller says them.

The first member to cross out all their words shouts Bingo and wins. The winner becomes the caller for the next game.

Tamil: Tamil Sangam literature takes a holistic as well as aesthetic view of all aspects of human lives and is majorly divided into Agam (The Internal-Emotional) and Puram (The External-Secular) for the sake of classification. Quote one poem from any genre which symbolises universal vision and eternal validity.

Hindi: Watch the news telecast or TV show (Hindi) every day and pick five new words each day and copy in your notebook.

Math:  Follow this link and learn at least one song to present to the class.

Social: During the Tamil month of Margazhi, the planet Earth is closest to the sun. In the northern hemisphere, this should have been the hottest month, but it is the coolest. Find out why? What is the scientific reason behind people visiting temples in the early hours? Why is the yellow flower of pumpkin ritually placed on cow dung in front of the houses during this month?

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2019! May this year bring endless prosperity, peace, sound health and success to all of us. Let’s work together to make it a blissful year.
